Support Us...
As you may know, LOCOS has a tradition of bringing high-caliber but affordable light opera to the tri-state area, utilizing the talents of professional singers as well as community members. This was very much the vision of LOCOS founder Georgia McKeever, and it remains our primary mission as we endeavor to expand LOCOS’ footprint via broad-reaching advertising, the addition of informal concert performances to our calendar and new repertoire, such as The Marriage of Figaro.
Most importantly, our work gives life to an art form that has largely vanished outside of major metropolitan areas but that throughout our country’s history has been an important part of even the smallest communities as European settlers brought their operatic traditions to America. At America’s centennial, there were over 3,000 opera houses across our country featuring locally “organized” performances...today there are less than 300, the vast majority of which feature professional performers exclusively. It is our hope that by continuing this tradition of community opera, we can supplement the arts education of our region’s youth as bring back fond memories of performances you have enjoyed or even participated in over your years as an arts patron.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
